I'm Beginning To Think It's Fake

A few months ago mom bought three orchids. She kept one for herself, gave one to Jackie, and gave the other to me. As mom gave it to me, Paul walked over, gently stroked the stalk of the orchid, and apologized to it for having to come home with me, as it would most likely suffer the same fate as many other houseplants that I have tried to grow over the years. I have a very bad habit of forgetting to water my indoor plants. Well...just so you know...mom's blooms fell off her orchid months ago, and mine still looks exactly the same as it did the day I brought it home...which leads me to believe that my orchid is fake. Mom, did you give me the fake orchid? The only thing that makes me think otherwise is that I think the leaves have grown larger.

Here's Abby looking not so interested in the fact that I'm taking pictures of the flowers rather than cooking dinner.

Yesterday's Ice

Apparently a big chunk of the city lost power last night. Our lights flickered twice or so, but never went completely out. We're pretty lucky in that regard. We only got about an inch of snow, but the freezing rain started a lot earlier than expected. I went to let Abby out before we went to bed and just thought the icicles through the holes of the wrought iron table looked neat.

Today it warmed up a little bit, so it's just raining...more like pouring. The roads are clear anyway. We went out to breakfast and then to to store to get chili fixin's. I'm going to go lie down and read the Christmas issue of Good Housekeeping that I picked up at the store. Of course, that's code for, "I'm going to take a nap." wink

The Lost Dandelion

Don't dandelions usually make an appearance in the spring? I think this guy showed up a little late for the party.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask him to leave.
