Yikes!

Sheila and her mom were in an car accident on Monday. It wasn't her fault. Some guy in an SUV just came out of nowhere. They had just picked up her puppy from the doggie salon and were headed home. Thankfully, Molly was in her cage in the back seat. Both airbags deployed. It it would have happened a second later...if she would have been going just a tiny bit faster...he would have hit the passenger door where her mom was sitting and things could have been a lot worse. Thank God for that. Everyone is okay...just a little stiff, and Sheila has some burns and sinus problems caused by the airbag. Scary! What is it with people these days? Everyone is in such a big hurry. I hate driving anymore. Here is one of the pictures they took of her car. She said they had just gotten new tires and headlights. Doesn't it figure.

Hope You Had a Happy Easter!

Even though it's almost over, I wanted to come on here and wish everyone a happy Easter. It was a beautiful day today...a little chilly with the high only in the 40s, but there was plenty of sunshine to warm things up. The house still smells like our Easter dinner of honey-glazed ham, mashed potatoes and ham gravy, carrots, and candied sweet potatoes. I'm sure that's driving Abby crazy! She got her little bites here and there of ham and some carrots, so she should be one happy camper. Mom and Jackie each took a little bit of ham home for sandwiches, and we still have plenty leftover. We'll be eating ham for the next week. I went through some of my old Quick Cooking magazines and found a few recipes to help use it up that I'm excited to try. One is a ham, egg, and cheese quiche with a hash brown crust. I'll have to let you know how that turns out. Paul is also planning on making up some of his favorite sandwiches, the Monte Cristo. I'm looking forward to that too.

Here are a couple of pictures. One is what was our centerpiece on the table. Then of course, there's a picture of you-know-who.

I painted this bunny years ago.
She's filled with the last of our malted-milk eggs.
(I've had about enough of those this year.)
I only colored six eggs. I boiled a dozen and used 6 to make some deviled eggs.
I got out some food coloring and colored the other 6, trying to match the colors of the bunny.

Jackie brought us this beautiful hyacinth that fit right into our centerpiece.

Can you tell this next little girl just wants some ham?
Can you believe she's going to be 5 in a couple of weeks.
Look at the gray starting to form around her muzzle.
She needs a haircut.

I hope the Easter bunny was good to everyone this year and you all had as nice of a day as we did.

I'm going to go hit the sack. It's going to be a long week for me. The boss is on vacation, which means I'm the boss. eek Uh-oh. They better watch out. wink

To be fair to all the human kids I know, I'm going to have to say Abby. wink

Have You Seen Heart-kun?

This was sent to me by Paul's aunt a couple of days ago in an email. It's pictures of Heart-kun, a long-coated chihuahua with unusual markings born in Japan. There is a perfect heart shape on his back. This is too sweet for words!

Here is a video showing the little guy in action...

More Overtime

We're super busy at work again, so I'm working more overtime. I haven't had the time or the energy to play, so I have a card to show you that I made a few weeks ago.

It only measures about 3 x 3 inches or so and was made using my Marvy Giga Scalloped Circle punch. The "frosting" is liquid pearls. The stamp is an old $1 stamp from Michaels. It's the only cupcake stamp I own, which is too bad because it seems that cupcakes are all the rage these days. Who knew!

Update on the corn flake--Did you see yesterday where Ebay canceled the auction stating that it violated their food policy? I guess you're not allowed to sell unpackaged food. Like anyone is going to pay $200,000 for a corn flake and then eat it (but I guess you never know). Anyway, now it's back up but what you're bidding on is a coupon that entitles you to the Great Illinois Corn Flake, and the bidding for that is up to $1,250. Apparently there were bids as high as a million for the original auction. I guess Ebay wouldn't accept those bids because they were believed to be fraudulent. You think? Now there is an explosion of copycat items on Ebay. Want a corn flake in the shape of Bob Hope's head? It can be yours for $1.99.

That's Just Ducky

I've been wanting to make an Easter egg card for a while . I was hoping the whole duck would fit, but I had to cut him in half. Paul thinks he looks sad. Maybe he doesn't like being cut in half. I colored him using Prismacolor pencils and OMS.

So...have you all seen the Illinois-shaped Frosted Flake for sale on E-Bay. I just checked on it, there have been 83 bids on it and the current bid is $200,500. What is wrong with these people? This has to be a joke. Who would spend 25 cents let alone $200,000? I just don't get it. If it is real, allow me to get on my soap box for a moment. If these people have that much money to just throw away, why don't they take that money and use it for something worthwhile. Maybe donate it to charity. It's almost sickening. Here is the link in case you haven't seen it yet... Flake.

Hmmmm. I think we have a box of Frosted Flakes in the kitchen. Maybe I should go through it and see what shapes I can find. I might never had to work again.

LOL! Just as I typed that, Paul brought up a flake from our supply. He thinks this one looks like the United States...after Florida disappears. Maybe it's a prediction.

Top O' The Mornin' To Ya

Okay...it's a year later and I STILL don't have any St. Patrick's Day stamps. I'm quite ashamed since a lot of my ancestors come from the old country. Despite my lack of Irish stamps, you all know I have tons of green, so he's my card to honor today.

The stamp and the flower are courtesy of mom. I borrowed the stamp from her a while back. We were over there today and she had made my a bunch of flowers using her Cricut. There weren't any green ones in the mix, but there was an all white one, so ta-da...look what a little ink can do.
The ink and paper are Certainly Celery by Stampin' Up. The darker paper is Always Artichoke by Stampin' Up, and the patterned paper is by Cloud 9 Design...Pear Sorbet, I believe. I was so excited when I found this in my scrap pile. Look how the pattern matches the flower. The stamp says the following, an Irish friendship wish:

May there always be work
for your hands to do
May your purse always hold
a coin or two
May the sun always shine
on your windowpane
May a rainbow be certain
to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend
always be near you
May God fill your heart
with gladness to cheer you.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 as highest), how much do you like your own handwriting?

Probably about an 8. My handwriting depends on my mood. Sometimes I try harder than others. I do get a lot of compliments on my handwriting.

Soup
Do you prefer baths or showers?

I would have to say showers. There was a time I would have said baths, and I do like a long soak every now and then, but now the only time I really ever take a bath is if my muscles are aching.

Salad
What was the last bad movie you watched?

Since we were just talking about it at work a couple of days ago so it's fresh in my mind, I'm going to have to say the movie "Bug." I love both Ashley Judd and Harry Connick, Jr., so I was looking forward to this movie and was thinking it would be good. It's just plain weird. I really don't watch a whole lot of movies...I'm a very finicky movie watcher. If a movie doesn't hold my attention, I fall asleep...out like a light. Paul knows what I like and what I don't, and if he says there is a movie that I will like, he's usually right...although he usually has to twist my arm to get me to watch it.

Main Course
Name something you are addicted to and describe how it affects your life.

Food. Unfortunately it's an addiction that you can't go cold turkey on. My other addiction would be the Internet. If our Internet is down, I feel like I'm disconnected from the world. I'm not on it all the time, but I absolutely hate it if the option isn't there.

Dessert
Which instrument is your favorite to listen to?

Either piano or acoustic guitar.

A Tisket, A Tasket...

...I made a mini basket!

Don't let the eggs fool you! They're actually malted milk eggs and this is a very tiny basket (about 1 x 2 inches). I saw a tutorial for these mini baskets these while blog surfing (blurfing) put together by Nancy Morgan from Paper Smiles. She was right...they're super easy to make! I just might make some of these for Easter treats for my coworkers.

No Bunny Like You

Considering how Easter is a week from this Sunday eek, I figured I better start playing with my bunny stamps. I can't believe how early it is this year! For this card I used a set from The Angel Company that I have had for probably a couple of years but just now cut apart. I don't know why it took me so long, because it's really an adorable set. For the layout I used Jen Del Muro's weekly sketch at her blog, i(heart)2stamp.

Sorry for the bad photo. This card didn't photograph well at all, and I don't feel like doing a retake. I really need to do something about my lighting in here.

Speaking of The Angel Company, I'm in a bit of a quandary. As most of you know, I'm a hobby demo for them. I was just about to place an order the other day when I started wondering if I really want to continue with that. It's inexpensive enough to keep up with, only $100 per quarter, and I'm lucky that they are super lenient and let you fall behind and then catch up. Being the procrastinator that I am (who...me?? wink), that means I usually end up having to order all $100 at a time to stay an active demonstrator rather than spending the $34 a month like I should do. Another plus is their stamps are really cute and are getting cuter with each catalog. On the other hand, I'm still very disappointed that they don't have coordinating paper, ink, ribbon, etc. like both Stampin' Up! and Close To My Heart. Having to spend that $100 a quarter is also cutting into any budget I might have to order from other up-and-coming companies who are also coming out with some really cute stuff. I feel it necessary to order stuff that I wouldn't necessarily order in order to stay active. I'm seriously thinking about dropping out and just ordering what I want, when I want, from wherever I want it. I do like the discount, though. I have also thought hard about switching to CTMH because their designer paper rocks and I'm getting more and more into the acrylic stamps; however, the discount isn't as good for a junior demonstrator. Like TAC the minimum is only $100 a quarter, but the discount is only 10%. I guess that's better than nothing.

I don't know. Decisions, decisions, decisions. What should I do???

Snow Funny!

Here are a couple more snow-related funnies I have been sent in the last week or so. The first one from Sheila. The second one from a few different people including Gail, Lisa, and my boss!

I was just wondering...
Is it spring yet?

LOL This baby looks exactly how I feel about this winter!

Ashamed

I should have done better than 37. I could kick myself after I saw the colors I missed. Duh! I thought I was getting fancy with colors like burnt sienna and cyan. This was fun. Made me think of those big 64-count crayon boxes...the one with the built-in sharpener on the back. biggrin Coloring with crayons was always one of my favorite things to do. I still like sitting down with the kids and coloring a picture every now and then. There is something relaxing about it.

Lucky Likes His Candy

At work I have the Page-A-Day calendar called "365 Dogs" (of course), and when you purchase one of the Page-A-Day calendars you get the code for a free online/email calendar. The online calendar I chose is "Bad Dogs." These are sometimes hilarious and sometimes stupid. Yesterday's was pretty cute. This is 7-year-old Lucky...who, like me, needs to go on a serious diet.

Caption: “What candy? I didn’t see any candy.”

I've had somewhat of a busy week, so I haven't really had a lot of time to create anything. Okay...I admit it. It hasn't been all that busy but rather I have had a lot of TV to watch. Is that sad or what? I normally don't like to watch that much TV. On top of that, we've both been trying to go to bed at a decent hour so it's not so hard to get up in the morning. Anyway, American Idol being on three days a week along with two hours of Biggest Loser per week is really cutting into my time! So what do you think of season 7 of AI? My two favorite girls are Brooke White and Carly Smithson...amazing voices! For the guys, I like David Archuleta (what a cutie!) and David Cook (who, by the way, needs a serious hair makeover!). Besides all that, we're still trying to catch up on all the seasons of 24. We just started season 6. Oh my GOSH! It's the best season EVER! We're only on episode 4, and so much has happened. They need to cut Jack some slack! Let him eat some breakfast and maybe take a nap or something! Then to find out who his brother is!! Oh my GOSH! What a show!

Hey Baby!

Happy belated Leap Day! I made this card last night in honor of "leap day" (February 29th), but I fell asleep and didn't get it posted. For the layout, I used Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge (#37). I borrowed this set last week from mom.

Did you ever wonder what leap year and leap day are all about? Me too, so I looked it up. I'm sure we learned about it in school, but who remembers that kind of stuff? While looking it up I learned all about the Gregorian and Julian calendars and the vernal equinox. There are apparently three criteria that determine a leap year:
  1. Every year that is divisible by four is a leap year;
  2. of those years, if it can be divided by 100, it is NOT a leap year, unless
  3. the year is divisible by 400. Then it is a leap year.
Confused yet? Me too. To make a very long story short, leap years are needed to keep our calendar in alignment with the earth's revolutions around the sun. All I know is that on leap year there is a 29th of February and it's the year of the presidential election. That's good enough for me.

Getting onto the fun stuff, did you know that there was a tradition several centuries ago that allowed a woman to propose to a man only during the extra day of a leap year, and if the man refused, he was to pay a fine, be it a gown or money. confused ("No, I won't marry you, but here, take this dress.") eek I think I would rather have the cash.
