Friends and Flowers

Here's another card made a couple of weekends ago using the Wednesday sketch challenge on SCS from a couple weeks ago (#220). The stamp is from TAC. I think it's called Oopsie Daisy. I like the way this turned out. I think it's 'cause I like the colors.

Color Challenge

Today was a super lazy day for both of us. We really didn't feel like doing much of anything. I had a busy week at work and a busy day yesterday, so it was nice to just chill out. I did manage to churn out this card between my magazine reading and napping. I've really enjoyed looking at all the color challenges that are out there lately. It's amazing how a group of people can take the same four colors (or however many) and make cards that are so completely different. I guess that's why I like the sketch challenges too. Anyway, I just found this challenge today and decided to play along. Here are this week's colors...

Did I ever tell you that back at the end of last year I was accepted onto the Stampin' Up! Survey Panel?? I don't think I mentioned that. Once a week I take a survey about Stampin' Up! products and after three months and completing at least 80% of the surveys I receive a goodie box from Stampin' Up. How cool is that?! Anyway, last month I received a box from them containing the Eastern Blooms stamp set, a Certainly Celery stamp pad, and a package of rub-ons! This is the first time I've used the stamp set.

A Bird's-Eye View

Just another bird card from last weekend.

That pink flower is NOT that bright in reality. It's more like a fuchsia color, but it looks florescent here. Makes me think of when I used to buy florescent tempera paint and make posters and then hang them in my room and turn on a black light. Now that was cool.

A Little Birdie Told Me

Ahhhhhh. Spring is finally officially here! We have had a couple of really nice weekends. On my way home one of the days last week, I saw a robin hopping down the sidewalk. Nothing says spring like "when the red, red robin comes bob, bob, bobbin' along!"

Speaking of birds, I bought a new stamp set this past weekend. I found this set for 50% off at Archiver's. I'm on a bird kick now. I came home and dug out all my bird stamps. I really don't have that many. Gonna have to to do something about that.

Food For Thought

Breakfast
If your job made you move, but you could choose which country you would be living in, which country would you choose and why?

Yikes! I think that even despite the state of the country during this economic crisis, I still have to say I would choose to stay in the good ol' US of A. I really don't know enough about working in other countries to choose any other.

Lunch
Do you have any phobias?

Water. It's a strange phobia because I can be near water, such as on a beach or on a boat, but I'm afraid of being under water. I can't watch scenes in movies that take place under water. I have to look away and concentrate on my breathing. Just thinking about it gives me the feeling that I can't breathe. You couldn't pay me enough to go on a submarine.

Dinner
What is something you can't help but spend money on?

Dining out. We are reeeeaaaallly trying to cut back on this and trying to eat at home more, but it's reeeeaaallly hard. We're getting better at it, though.

That and stamping supplies. I keep telling myself I don't need anymore supplies, but they just keep coming out with new stuff.

Midnight Snack
What profession/job did your parent(s) have while you were growing up?

Mom was a hairstylist/beauty shop owner. Dad was a machinist for a company that designs, manufactures, and services energy control systems and components for aircraft and industrial engines and turbines (I stole that off their website).

As You Wish

This card was done for a challenge using the "The Princess Bride" as inspiration. The Princess Bride is an oft-quoted 1987 movie based on a 1973 novel. It's a tale of both true love and adventure. It's been a while since I have seen the movie, but for some reason some of the lines just stick with you. "As you wish" is a big one. One of Paul's favorites is, "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die. " My inspiration didn't come from any of the quotes, but rather from a character's name. The main characters are Westley and Buttercup.

Actually, this is something I say to Abby quite often. When she comes walking into the room I'll say, "What's up, Buttercup?" I'm really surprised the poor dog even knows her real name. "Let's go, Pinocchio," is another one she hears all the time. I'm weird...I know.

Scrappin' Sunday

I took this picture of Abby this week. Looks like something struck her as funny...or maybe she knows something I don't. She probably just finished making it snow in the living room again with the innards of her big fuzzy ball.

That's all you're getting out of me this weekend. I'm going to bed. I haven't felt good all day. I think I have a cold coming on. Today it was just in the left side of my face, though. Everything over there is running and I've been sneezing over and over and over. I'm seriously hoping it doesn't migrate to the other half of my face overnight, but with the way I feel right now, I'm thinking it will. It's this stupid weather. One day it's in the 60's and the next day the wind chill is in the single digits. Make up your mind already!

Breakfast
What is the longest consecutive time you have spent in a car?

I don't know. Probably the trip from Nags Head, NC, to Dayton, OH, on our way home a few years ago (has it been three years already?!). I have no idea how long it took. We stayed in a Holiday Inn Express in Dayton and then headed home the next morning.

Where would you go if you were invisible?

Behind the scenes at the White House to see how things really go down.

If you could swim in any liquid what would it be and why?

Shaving cream. I have no idea why. It's just feels so creamy. Of course, I could always say "water" and get away with it seeing as how I don't swim.

Monochromatic

I did this one for a challenge to make a monochromatic (one color) card. I went through my scrap pile and decided to go with purple. The strip of cardstock across the middle is actually the same color all the way across, but because it's the "bling" kind, the light bounced off of it a different way for the photo and so it looks like two different colors.

New...Or Not So New

This card was made for a challenge using new things. With the exception of the ink and cardstock, the card was supposed to be made with something you just acquired within the last two months or something you have been hoarding and never used before.


Guilty as charged. See that background paper? I posted about it a long time ago. I just love it. It's so pretty. I paid $1.99 for it (yes, for one piece of 12x12 paper) and never used it because I didn't want to cut it. Stupid, I know. I thought this would be a good challenge to take the plunge and use it...otherwise it would sit there forever. The main image is actually a sticker. I found this (on a whole matching sheet) in the clearance section at Hobby Lobby a couple of weeks ago for like $1.29 or something. I bought the ribbon at Hobby Lobby at the same time. You can't get any easier than this.

Now what am I going to do with it? I don't want to send it to anyone 'cause I really like it! Maybe I'll frame it. How weird is that?

Poor George

George is giving me the thumbs up with his one remaining leg...letting me know he's okay. Or maybe that's his way of flipping me off since his fingers are stuck together. I can't tell. Maybe he's just curious as to what happened to his other leg. He is Curious George, after all.

Food For Thought Friday

Breakfast
What is the most interesting car you have ever owned and why?
Well, I've already talked about my first car, Bobby, my mint green Mercury Bobcat. That was a pretty interesting car. I guess I can talk about my current car, the Neon. Can you believe I've been driving it for almost 14 years and it's still hanging in there?! It's starting to rust pretty bad...especially on top (note to self...do not park under the crab apple trees at work). The driver's side door is really rusted out on the bottom too. Oh, well. It gets me where I need to go. Paul hates driving it. I think he's so happy to have the Taurus. I, however, like my little blue car. It's going to be hard for me to part with it. Dad test drove it with me when I first went looking to buy it...which I know had to be difficult for him because he was a Ford man. Since he died before I had a chance to buy it, Gary went back with me and test drove it again. I like to think that they're both with me as I'm tooling down the road...keeping me out of trouble...and that's why it's lasted so long!

What book are you currently reading?
Nothing right now. I go in spurts when it comes to books. I read and read and read for a while and then take a few months off. On my nightstand waiting for me is Eclipse, the third book in the Twilight series.

Dinner

Did you have any pets growing up?
Of course. Poodles. I was just thinking about Garnet today. And birds. All kinds of birds. It started with Cupid and Valerie, two canaries that mom bought me for Valentine's Day one year. But then mom can't have just two birds...she has to have like 100 and turn part of the basement into an aviary. Then we also had a couple parakeets (my baby Blueboy) and Paca, the parrot.

Midnight Snack

How do you unwind at night?
By surfing the net or watching TV...and usually falling asleep on the couch.

Spring Fever

You know it has been a long, cold winter when you wake up and see that the temperature outside is 37 degrees and you think to yourself, "Wow...it's that nice out already?!" Technically, that's only 5 degrees above freezing! However, this time of year if it's already 37 degrees at 6 a.m., you know it's going to be a nice day. It got up to 64 today. We actually sat outside on our afternoon break at work to get some fresh air. How wonderful is that?! They're doing some major construction on the building that I'm in, adding a new addition, and the construction guys must have had some doors open because for most of the afternoon I could smell "spring" while sitting at my desk. Ahhhhhhhh.

Bittersweet Love

This was for a challenge using a stamp set that you don't really like. One that you either keep wondering why you bought or that you find hard to use.

This is a set from CTMH called "Groovy." The only thing I stamped on here was the "groovy," because ironically I had this paper that perfectly matches the flowers from the set. I must have been in some kind of time warp when I bought this set. Far out, man.

I swear I get the weirdest songs stuck in my head. I don't know how it happens. Now I know you must know this song. Can you guess who sings it? I'll give you a hint... Three boys, three girls, plus mom and dad and a housekeeper make one big happy family. Oh, and don't forget about the dog, Tiger. Remember the episode where they thought Jan was allergic to Tiger and they were going to have to give him away? Come to find out, it was just his shampoo that she was allergic to.

Yep...it's the Brady Bunch. I haven't even seen an episode of the Brandy Bunch in years yet that song ends up in my head. Where does this stuff come from?! Anyway, in order to get it out of my head, I turned it into a card.
